Misremembered looms large in Oaklawn Handicap
After being sidelined 12 months following his win in the 2010 Santa Anita
Handicap, Misremembered returned to the races with a sharp
three-length score in the March 6 Santana Mile S. at Santa Anita. The Bob
Baffert-trained horse will invade Oaklawn Park for his return to graded stakes company
Saturday, topping a field of six horses in the $350,000, Grade 1 Oaklawn
Handicap at 1 1/8
miles.
Misremembered captured the Grade 2 Swaps and Grade 2 Indiana Derby in 2009
before completing his sophomore campaign with a pair of runner-up finishes in
the Grade 2 Clark Handicap and Grade 1 Malibu Stakes. He made only two starts last year,
recording a second in the Grade 2 Strub Stakes before notching his first Grade 1 tally
by a half-length in the Big 'Cap. He showed no signs of rust when coming back
from the lengthy
freshening in the Santana Mile, receiving a career-best 104 BRIS Speed rating,
and should appreciate the added ground Saturday.
Calvin Borel will pick up the mount from Martin Garcia, who will remain in
California to ride Jaycito in Saturday's Santa Anita Derby.
Grade 3 winner Winslow Homer will look to get back on
track following a disappointing sixth as the favorite in the March 12 Razorback, his first appearance under silks since a scintillating nine-length
decision in the Curlin S. at Saratoga last summer. Gabriel Saez will pick up the
mount on the Larry Jones-trained colt.
Win Willy always commands respect at the Hot Springs, Arkansas,
oval. His only graded win, the Grade 2 Rebel in 2009, came over the track and the
gray horse has won or placed in a total of six stakes at Oaklawn, including a
third in the Razorback most recently. Win Willy also finished second in the 2010
Oaklawn Handicap.
Razorback winner It Happened Again will return as well for
Oaklawn's centerpiece event for older horses, and longshots Double Threat and
Stachys round out the field.
