Miss Lodi sells for $1.9 million

Grade 3 winner MISS LODI (Mr. Greeley) sold for the top price of $1.9 million

to Sha-Li Leasing at Tuesday's session of the Keeneland January Horses of All

Ages Sale in Lexington, Kentucky. The nine-year-old mare, cataloged as Hip No.

702 and in foal to

Storm Cat on an April 3 cover, was consigned by Lane's End, agent.

Miss Lodi has produced three foals, all by A.P.

Indy. She is out of the unraced Big Spruce mare Firtide, who is a full sister to

stakes-winning, stakes producer Barbara Sue, and a half-sister to Grade 1 winner

and $826,500-earner Super May (Super Concorde) as well as multiple Grade 3

winner Ide (Forty Niner).

Miss Lodi won the 2002 Safely Kept S. (G3) and earned $342,319 from a record

of 17-6-4-1. She placed in four additional black-type events, including the 2003

Humana Distaff H. (G1) and 2002 Raven Run S. (G3).

"She's a lovely mare and she's got a good history," said Charles Albright,

who signed the winning ticket for Sha-Li Leasing. "We expected her to go for

more, so we're happy with the price."

GWEN'S SONG (Unbridled's Song), cataloged in foal to Distorted Humor on a May

16 cover, sold for $1.5 million to Aaron and Marie Jones. The five-year-old mare

was consigned by Greenfield Farm (B.D. Gibbs Farm), agent.

Gwen's Song is a half-sister to three-time Grade 2 winner and $842,031-earner

Lead Story (Editor's Note), stakes winner Capejinsky (Cape Town) and

stakes-placed Glory Glory (Honour and Glory). Gwen's Song is out of Gwenjinsky (Seattle

Dancer), a half-sister to 2001 Breeders' Cup Distaff (G1) heroine Unbridled

Elaine (Unbridled's Song), the dam of 2007 Nashua S. (G3) winner Etched

(Forestry), and Grade 1 vixen Glitter Woman (Glitterman), the dam of 2007

Suburban H. (G1) winner Political Force (Unbridled's Song).

Gwen's Song went through the sales ring as Hip 625.

Narvick International paid $1.35 million for Grade 2 winner MOON CATCHER

(Malibu Moon), who was cataloged as a racing or broodmare prospect. The

four-year-old was consigned by Gainesway, agent.

In 2007, Moon Catcher won six of 11 starts, including the Delaware Oaks (G2),

Susan's Girl Breeders' Cup S., and Maryland Million Oaks. She placed in two

other races and earned $663,450.

Moon Catcher is a half-sister to stakes winner Smarten Up (Baederwood). She

is out of the winning Smarten mare Smartster and hails from the same female

family as multiple Grade 1 winner and millionaire Ancient Title (Gummo).

Moon Catcher was cataloged as Hip 716.

On Tuesday, the sales company reported 239 horses sold for $27,088,200, an

increase of 17.2 percent compared to the same session last year when 267 horses

sold for $23,112,200. The average price jumped 30.9 percent, from $86,563 to

$113,340, while the median price rose 27.7 percent, from $47,000 to $60,000.

Through the first two days, 434 horses sold for $48,414,100, a 15 percent

increase compared to the $42,082,200 realized by 478 horses in 2007. The average

price is up 26.7 percent, from $88,038 to $111,553, while the median price is up

17 percent, from $50,000 to $58,500.

"Today was a continuation of yesterday; the top was very, very strong but it

was a little weak below." Keeneland Director of Sales Geoffrey Russell said.

"However, we were more even throughout today, and the million-dollar horses

added some sparkle."
