More Than Ready colt tops Magic Millions session

A colt by More Than Ready topped Tuesday's opening session of the Magic

Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale with a final bid of A$210,000. Consigned by

Baramul Stud, the yearling was purchased by trainer Phillip Stokes. He is out of

Sun Chariot (Desert King), a half-sister to Hong Kong Group 1 winner Super Satin

(Danehill Dancer).

"He was a real stand out," Stokes said of the yearling. "He was the colt of

the sale and I'm delighted to have been able to buy him. He's by one of the

great stallions in the country in More Than Ready and he has a lot going for

him. The dam is a half sister to Super Satin -- who I trained prior to him

heading to Hong Kong. And this colt has a lot more substance than Super Satin

had at the same stage."

The session-topper was one of five purchased by Stokes yesterday.

"I have bought at virtually all of the sales around the country this year --

but this sale is the one I've had plenty of success with. It is great to be able

to support the local sale and I couldn't be happier with my five purchases."

Trainer Mark Riley purchased the day's next top-priced lot, going to

A$140,000 for a son of Stratum. Consigned by Rob and Maureen McBryde's Summerset

Park Stud, the yearling is out of Duchess Cara (Quest for Fame [GB]) and is a

half-brother to stakes-placed Mr President (Xaar).

During yesterday's session, 164 yearlings sold for A$5,669,500. The average

was up 30 percent to A$34,570. The clearance rate was 81 percent.

"It's been a great day's selling," Magic Millions Acting Managing Director

David Chester reported. "To have the gross rise 65 percent and the average 30

percent is great for everyone concerned."
