Nehro out of the Preakness
Kentucky Derby (G1) runner-up NEHRO (Mineshaft) will not run in Saturday's
Preakness (G1), owner Ahmed Zayat informed Maryland Jockey Club officials on
Tuesday morning.
A February 21 maiden winner, Nehro finished second in both the Arkansas Derby
(G1) and Louisiana Derby (G2) prior to his gallant effort behind Animal
Kingdom (Leroidesanimaux [Brz]) in the Kentucky Derby. Following three hard
races in a six-week span, Zayat decided to err on the side of caution and avoid
bringing Nehro back on a two-week rest in the second jewel of the Triple Crown.
Nehro continues to do well for trainer Steve Asmussen, breezing four furlongs
in :50 4/5 at Churchill Downs on Monday, and will be pointed to the June 11
Belmont S. (G1).
