Notebook filly brings $85,000

Hip No. 4390, a dark bay filly by Notebook, brought the top price of $85,000

from Richard Matlow, agent, at the 12th session of the Keeneland September

Yearling Sale in Lexington, Kentucky. Consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency,

agent, the April 5 filly is out of the winning mare Cut n' Double (Cutlass) and

is a full sister to 2001 West Virginia Oaks winner Elise's Notebook.

The top-selling colt, a February 29 bay yearling by Northern Afleet, was

purchased by George Krikorian for $82,000. Consigned by Legacy Bloodstock,

agent, as Hip 4164, the youngster is out of the unraced mare Notable Crusader

(Crusader Sword), who is a full sister to multiple stakes winner Notable Sword.

The colt was previously purchased as a weanling at the Keeneland November

Breeding Stock Sale for $20,000.

For the session, 249 yearlings sold for $3,703,600, an increase of 24.3

percent from last year's comparative session when 215 yearlings were purchased

for $2,979,100. Average price jumped 7.3 percent, from $13,856 in 2004 to

$14,874 this year, and median price increased 20 percent, from $8,000 to

$10,000.

To date, 3,168 horses have sold for an aggregate $380,801,000, up 18.5

percent from this point last year when 3,034 horses went for $321,224,800.

Average price increased 13.5 percent, from $105,875 to $120,202, while median

price has made a slight 4.4 percent rise, from $45,000 to $47,000.

Selling continues Sunday at 10 a.m. (EDT).
