Hip No. 51, a bay colt by Orientate, sped the fastest two furlongs in :21 2/5
during Wednesday's under tack show for the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Two-Year-Olds
in Training Sale. Consigned by Kirkwood Stables, agent, the juvenile is out of
the winning L'abidjanaise (Dixieland Band), making him a half-brother to Grade 2
runner-up Thou Swell (Aptitude). This is the same family as Grade 1 winner
Hatchet Man (The Axe II) and Canadian champion Ginger Brew (Milwaukee Brew) as
well as Grade 2 victors Stop the Music (Hail to Reason) and Vision and Verse
(Storm Cat), the latter of whom was a close second in the 1999 Belmont S. (G1) and
Travers S. (G1).
Hip 205, a bay filly by Wildcat Heir, worked the quickest three furlongs in
:34 1/5 for consignors Leprechaun Racing, agent. The Florida-bred lass is the
first foal out of the unraced Brightest Future (Gulch), herself a daughter of
multiple stakes winner and Grade 1-placed Future Bright (Lyphard's Wish [Fr]).
Brightest Future is a half-sister to Grade 2 runner-up Cosmic Fire (Capote), the
dam of four-time Grade 3 hero and Breeders' Cup Mile (G1) third-placer Cosmonaut
(Lemon Drop Kid).
A chestnut filly by Aldebaran recorded the bullet half-mile in :46 3/5.
Consigned by Kirkwood Stables, agent, as Hip 148, the lass is out of With My
Blessings (Pulpit) and counts among her family Grade 3 victress Bully Bones (Hesabull).
Eight juveniles tied for the quickest eighth-mile work, each getting a final
time of :10 1/5. They were Hip 12, a dark bay filly by Eurosilver who comes from
the same family as champion and multiple Grade 1 winner War Pass (Cherokee Run);
TASHOP (Tapit), consigned as Hip 24 and out of Shopping (Private Account),
making her a half-sister to Grade 1-winning millionaire Miss Shop (Deputy Minister); Hip 46, a
chestnut colt by Forest Danger who is out of Spa Romance (Saratoga Six) and
counts among his relatives Grade 1 victress Dance Teacher (Smarten) as well as
multiple Grade 2 winners High Limit (Maria's Mon) and Gold Mover (Gold Fever); Hip 82, a
bay colt by D'wildcat out of Sweet But Nasty (Nasty and Bold) and from the same
line as Grade 1-winning sire Skip Trial (Bailjumper); Hip 112, a dark bay filly
by Freud out of True Legend (Gold Legend); COPY ME (Exchange Rate), consigned as
Hip 149 and out of With Precision (Saint Ballado), making her from the same
family as Grade 1 victor and sire Crested Wave (Crozier); Hip 240, a gray colt
by Woke Up Dreamin out of Crafty Gold (Capture the Gold) who comes from the same
lineage as champion Cascapedia (Chieftain); and DAIMON'S TALE (Tale of the Cat),
consigned as Hip 241 and out of Daimon (Strike Gold), making him a half-brother
to Grade 3-placed stakes winner Saint Daimon (Saint Ballado) and Grade 2-placed
Not Tricky (Phone Trick).
The Midlantic sale is scheduled to run May 18-19 in Timonium Maryland,
starting at 10 a.m. (EDT) for each session.
