Overanalyze retired

Last updated: 9/8/13 6:37 PM

According to Daily Racing Form, Arkansas Derby winner Overanalyze has been retired from racing.

Trained by Todd Pletcher for Repole Stable, the bay colt was a front-running debut winner sprinting five furlongs at

Saratoga in August 2012, where he recorded a gaudy 101 BRIS Speed rating. He

took a significant step up in trip to seven furlongs for the Hopeful, but faded

to fourth after chasing the early pace.

Overanalyze rebounded with a vengeance when going last to first in the Futurity.

Regressing when third in the Iroquois at Churchill Downs, he battled to a

photo-finish verdict in

the Remsen, where he appeared beaten in the stretch but fought back to nip

Normandy Invasion.

Kicking off his three-year-old season in the Gotham, Overanalyze could do no

better than fifth as the 8-5 favorite. But his up-and-down pattern held true

next time out in the Arkansas Derby, as he rallied to a 4 1/4-length triumph at

Oaklawn.

Overanalyze advanced to the Kentucky Derby, but ended up crossing the wire 11th

at Churchill Downs. He came

back in the Belmont Stakes, but did not fare much better finishing seventh. Overanalyze

took a nearly two-month break from the track before returning in the August 3 West

Virginia Derby, where he was a well-beaten third. Shortening up to seven

furlongs for the August 24 King's Bishop didn't help to recover his sparkle, and

he checked in fifth.

"A special horse, a Grade 1 winner, another horse that got me to the Kentucky

Derby and Belmont Stakes," owner Mike Repole told DRF. "There aren't many horses

that can win a maiden race at Saratoga wire to wire and then win the Futurity

coming from last. He ran a real gutsy race in the Remsen when it looked like at

the eighth pole he was going to finish third."

The son of Dixie Union was a $380,000 Keeneland September yearling purchase

and finished his career with a record of 11-4-0-2 and $1,046,381 in lifetime

earnings.

Stud plans have not yet been finalized.
