IEAH Stables and Resolute Group Stables' REBEL REBEL (Ire) (Revoque [Ire])

drew clear to a 2 1/4-length victory in Saturday's $110,900

Poker H. (G3)

at Belmont Park after rating near the back of the pack for the bulk of the

one-mile turf affair. Rating in fifth and then sixth under jockey Edgar Prado,

the Richard Dutrow Jr. trainee waited patiently as pacesetter T. D. Vance

(Rahy) clocked opening fractions of :23, :46 2/5 and 1:10 1/5 before losing that

advantage to Rebel Rebel heading into the stretch. Rebel Rebel drew clear under

a drive from Prado and stopped the timer in 1:33 1/5 over a firm course as the

5-2 second-favorite to return $7, $3.50 and $2.80.

"We switched it up a little today," Prado said. "The last time he won, he was

a little further back and he had a nice kick. It worked out beautiful."

Remarkable News (Ven) (Chayim), the 2-1 favorite, rallied to earn the place,

which gave back $3.30 and $2.40, while rounding out the $24.20 exacta. Vicarage

(Vicar) was another 2 1/4 lengths back to pay $4.30 at 9-1, completing a

trifecta which returned $157.50. Willard Straight (Lion Cavern), Woodlander

(Forestry), Around the Cape (Carson City) and T. D. Vance completed the order of

finish.

Bred in Ireland by William Fogarty, the bay four-year-old is out of the

winning mare French Quarter (Ile de Bourbon). Victorious in the Easter S. in

England last year, this was Rebel Rebel's first stakes win stateside. With the

score, he pushed his record to 18-5-3-1 with $411,334 in earnings.
