Ron Crockett's homebred HARVARD AVENUE (You and I) closed with a rush to take

Sunday's $194,000

Potrero Grande Breeders' Cup H. (G2) at Santa Anita. The four-year-old

Doug O'Neill trainee finished with a last-to-first move inside the final furlong

to surprise at 5-1 under jockey Garrett Gomez.

Content to rate well off contested fractions of :21 1/4 and :43 4/5 for the

half, Harvard Avenue found himself last in a field of nine turning for home. The

dark bay found another gear, however, and was closing hard on the leaders after

six furlongs in 1:09 3/5. Inside the final sixteenth, the gelding kicked clear of Rushin' To Altar (Pulpit) and Gary Stevens to record his first win since being

switched to the O'Neill barn in December of 2003, stopping the clock in 1:16 for

6 1/2 fast furlongs.

The winner paid $12.60, $6.60 and $4.40 while keying $1 exotics of $60.70 for

the exacta, $940.70 for the trifecta and $5,908.80 for the 6-10-7-3 superfecta. Rushin' To Altar, who finished a half-length back of the winner, returned $9.20

and $5.60 at 8-1. Roi Charmant (Evansville Slew), dismissed at 13-1, gave back a

nice $8.20 for the show. Perfect Moon (Malibu Moon), the leader with a sixteenth

to go, completed the superfecta and was followed by Saint Afleet (Northern

Afleet), Hasty Kris (Kissin Kris), Ice Wynnd Fire (Northern Afleet), Jungle

Prince (Sir Cat) and Onebadshark (Diligence). Kela (Numerous) was withdrawn.

Harvard Avenue was bred in the Bluegrass State and is the second foal out of

the multiple stakes-winning Saratoga Six mare Carrie Can. He counts

as half-brothers the stakes-placed Cody to Reggie (Storm Boot), an

unraced two-year-old named Romar (Service Stripe), a yearling

by Boundary and a 2005 colt by Langfuhr. With this win,

his first graded score in seven attempts, he improves his overall mark to

15-3-5-3 with earnings of $338,106.
