Premium Tap, Strong Contender work for Donn
Clark H. (G1) star PREMIUM TAP (Pleasant Tap)
and Super Derby (G2) hero STRONG CONTENDER (Maria's Mon) each worked five furlongs over Gulfstream Park's fast dirt on Sunday in
preparation for the $500,000 Donn H. (G1) on February 3.
Premium Tap logged five furlongs in 1:01
for conditioner John Kimmel. The five-year-old, who was third in the
Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) two prior, made his stakes debut a winning one in the
Albert the Great S. in early July. He would go on to capture the Woodward S.
(G1) and made his final start of 2006 an easy 7 1/4-length victory in the Clark.
Strong Contender sizzled a bullet five panels in :59 3/5 for trainer John
Ward, getting the best time of 16 workers at the distance. The chestnut
four-year-old geared up for the Donn with fifth-place finish in the Hal's Hope
H. (G3) on January 6. He was coming off a more than three-month break, having
previously captured the Super Derby by a length in his final start as a
three-year-old.
