Private

Account dies at age 28

Two-time Grade 1 winner and sire PRIVATE ACCOUNT (Damascus) died on November 25 at Claiborne Farm

near Paris, Kentucky, due to complications from old age. The 28-year-old

stallion sired at least 60 stakes winners and 36 grade/group stakes winners from

14 crops. Thirteen of these were Grade 1 winners and three were Group 1 winners. His most notable progeny

included champions Personal Ensign and Inside Information.

Undefeated eight-time Grade 1 winner Personal

Ensign, who staged one of the greatest rallies ever to close out her career with

a victory in the Breeders' Cup Distaff (G1), was named champion older mare in

1988. She also earned 1996 broodmare of the year honors. Her daughter, My

Flag (Easy Goer), won the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) in 1995 and the

Ashland S. (G1), Coaching Club American Oaks (G1) and Gazelle H. (G1) the

following year. The 20-year-old broodmare has also produced full brothers Miners Mark

(Mr. Prospector) and Traditionally,

both

Grade 1

winners, and Our Emblem (Mr. Prospector), who is the sire of champion and dual classic hero War

Emblem.

Inside Information won the Breeders Cup Distaff by 13 1/2 lengths in 1995 and

seven of eight starts that season before being selected champion older mare. She

earned more than $1.6 million and also captured the the Spinster S. (G1),

Ruffian H. (G1), Shuvee H. (G1), Acorn S. (G1) and Ashland S. (G1) during her

stellar career.

Private

Account won the Gulfstream Park

H. (G1), Widener H. (G1) and Jim Dandy S. (G3) for trainer Angel Penna Sr. He

retired with a record of 13-6-4-1

and $339,396 in

earnings.

In 1995, he failed to

impregnate any mares and was pensioned the following season.
