Last updated: 9/30/13 8:52 PM

A colt from the first crop of multiple Grade 1 winner Quality Road sold for

$250,000 during Monday's Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Fall Yearlings Sale at Timonium,

Maryland. Bortolazzo Stables bought the March 3 bay, who sported Hip No. 186,

from the CandyLand, agent, consignment.

Produced by the winning Chalonnaise (French Deputy), the yearling is a

half-brother to the Grade 3-placed Nathan's H Q (Yonaguska). Chalonnaise is

herself a half-sister to multiple Grade 3 winner Tasha's Miracle (Harlan's

Holiday), Grade 2-placed

stakes producer Deb's Charm (Silver Charm), and the stakes-placed Early Vintage (Jump

Start). Also hailing from this family is Grade 2 winner Concord Point (Tapit).

The sales topper's third dam was Grade 2 winner A Penny Is a Penny

(Temperence Hill).

Cary Frommer, agent, signed the $175,000 ticket for Hip 325, a Tiz Wonderful

colt. The May 17 Maryland-bred was offered by Dark Hollow, agent.

Reared by the winning Memories of Mystic (Dixie Union), the colt is a

half-brother to Mystic Love (Not for Love), a two-time stakes-winning earner of

$184,060. Memories of Mystic is herself a half-sister to stakes scorers

Dance Fee (Menifee) and Chancellor M. H. (Mt. Livermore). All were

produced by the stakes-winning Mystic Dance (Nepal).

This family traces back to two-time Delaware H. winner Obeah (Cyane), the dam

of Hall of Famer Go for Wand (Deputy Minister).

The one-day sale posted double-digit gains across the board compared to last

year. Upon the conclusion of trade Monday evening, Fasig-Tipton reported that

289 yearlings grossed $7,469,900, a 21.1 percent jump from the $6,166,100 raked

in by 276 sellers in 2012. The average increased 15.7 percent, from $22,341 to

$25,847, and the median spiked 41.7 percent, from $12,000 to $17,000.
