Last updated: 10/11/09 3:10 PM

Stuart S. Janney III's homebred QUIET HARBOR (Silver Deputy) rallied late in

Saturday night's $125,000

Violet S.

(G3) at the Meadowlands to record her fourth straight win while making her

stakes bow. Trained by Shug McGaughey and ridden by Eddie Castro, the four-year-old

was three parts of a length clear on the line while finishing up 1 1/16 miles on

the firm turf in 1:41 3/5.

Sent off the 10-1 sixth choice in the 10-horse field, Quiet Harbor returned

$23.20, $12.80 and $7 to her faithful backers. Always for Love (Not for Love)

set the pace through splits of :23 1/5, :47 1/5, 1:12 1/5 and 1:35 4/5, but

couldn't withstand the late rush of the winner while holding second by a head.

The 11-1 seventh pick gave back $12.20 and $8.40 for taking second over 9-5 favorite All

is Vanity (Fr) (Gold Away [Ire]), who paid $2.80. The exotics totaled $270

(exacta), $1,750.60 (trifecta) and $13,568.80 (6-2-7-9 superfecta).

Way With Words (Sefapiano), who tracked the early pace, faded to fourth and

was followed under the line by Julia Tuttle (Giant's Causeway), Skylighter (Sky

Mesa), Lookalike (Dynaformer), Dattts Our Girl (Thunder Gulch), Talkin About

Love (Not for Love) and Dyna's Lassie (Dynaformer).

Quiet Harbor took three tries to break her maiden, finally getting the job

done while making her four-year-old, and turf, debut on February 4 at Gulfstream

Park. She raced on main tracks in her next two against allowance rivals,

finishing third in each case, then tired to seventh over Belmont's turf on May

13. The bay lass earned her first allowance score at Monmouth Park next out and

has been unbeatable since, racking up a 10-5-1-2 line to go along with $192,670

in lifetime earnings.

The Kentucky-bred miss is out of the multiple stakes-placed Meghan's Joy

(A.P. Indy), making her a half-sister to Grade 3 victor Hunting (Coronado's

Quest), dual Grade 3-placed Minister's Joy (Deputy Minister), an unraced

juvenile filly named Home Rule (Empire Maker), a yearling colt

named Seal Cove (Strong Hope) and a Mr. Greeley weanling filly. Her third dam is

Wild Applause (Northern Dancer), who captured the 1984 Diana H. (G2) and Comely

S. (G3) as well as placed in the Mother Goose S. (G1) and Test S. (G2). That one

would go on to produce in the breeding shed undefeated Grade 1-winning sire

Eastern Echo (Damascus), Grade 2 heroine Yell (A.P. Indy), Grade 2 scorer and

sire Roar (Forty Niner), and Grade 3 winner Blare of Trumpets (Fit to Fight).

Wild Applause is herself a daughter of Broodmare of the Year Glowing Tribute

(Graustark), who is also the dam of 1993 Kentucky Derby (G1) king Sea Hero

(Polish Navy), dual Grade 1 victor and sire Hero's Honor (Northern Dancer) and

two-time Grade 2 winner Glowing Honor (Seattle Slew). Others of note in the

family include European champion sprinter and sire Mozart (Ire) (Danehill) and

three-time champion Affectionately (Swaps).
