Rachel Alexandra continues Oaks preparations

Last updated: 4/22/09 3:56 PM

L and M Partners' RACHEL ALEXANDRA (Medaglia d'Oro) continued to show her

readiness for next Friday's Kentucky Oaks (G1) by galloping 1 1/2 miles under

stout restraint from exercise rider Rudy Gallegos.

"She is like that every morning," trainer Hal Wiggins said.

Rachel Alexandra will be going for her fifth straight victory when lining up

for the Oaks, already taking the Fair Grounds Oaks (G2), Fantasy S. (G2) and

Martha Washington S. by comfortable margins this year.

Calvin Borel, aboard for Rachel Alexandra's past four consecutive scores, is

scheduled to work the dark bay filly a half-mile on Monday as their final

tune-up for the Oaks.

Thomas Van Meter and Charles Kidder's BE FAIR (Exchange Rate) galloped

Wednesday morning at Churchill Downs with exercise rider Omar Golon up. The dark

bay lass has run fourth in the Ashland S. (G1) and Honeybee S. (G1) in her past

two outings.

Trainer D. Wayne Lukas, a four-time winner of the Kentucky Oaks, has enlisted

the services of jockey Rafael Bejarano to ride Be Fair in the race.

Arnold Zetcher's homebred GABBY'S GOLDEN GAL (Medaglia d'Oro) jogged before

the renovation break Wednesday morning under exercise rider George Alvarez.

Conditioned by recent Hall of Fame inductee Bob Baffert, Gabby's Golden Girl

enters the Oaks off a 13-length victory in the Sunland Park Oaks on March 29.

Victor Espinoza, who was aboard for the first time that day, has the Oaks riding

assignment.

J. Paul Reddam's NAN (High Yield) visited the starting gate and then galloped

1 1/8 miles before the renovation break under exercise rider Jose Castanon. The

Craig Dollase trainee is scheduled to work on Friday or Saturday. Corey Nakatani

will be aboard for the Oaks.

Upcoming arrivals

West Point Thoroughbreds' duo of JUSTWHISTLEDIXIE (Dixie Union) and FITZ JUST

RIGHT (Seattle Fitz [Arg]) are scheduled to arrive at Churchill Downs from

Keeneland on Wednesday afternoon. The Kiaran McLaughlin trainees will be housed

in Barn 42. The fillies are scheduled to work Friday, with McLaughlin on hand

for the works.

Ramon Dominguez has the riding assignment on Fitz Just Right and Julien

Leparoux will partner Justwhistledixie in the Oaks.

Mike Rutherford's FLYING SPUR (Giant's Causeway) is scheduled to arrive at

Churchill Downs from Keeneland on Wednesday afternoon and will be stabled in

trainer Bill Mott's barn (19).

In her most recent start, Flying Spur ran second to probable Kentucky Oaks

favorite Rachel Alexandra in the Fair Grounds Oaks on March 14. Flying Spur is a

daughter of Lakeway (Seattle Slew), who ran second by a head in the 1994

Kentucky Oaks.
