Shred the Gnar proved more than sharp returning from a layoff of more than six months for her stakes debut in Saturday's $300,000 Chilukki (G3) at Churchill Downs. The three-year-old filly grabbed the lead at the start and never looked back en route to a 2 3/4-length victory under Luis Saez.

Last seen on May 2 when producing an explosive seven-length allowance win going 1 1/16 miles, Shred the Gnar improved her career mark to 3-for-4 in the one-mile Chilukki, which she won in a time of 1:34.84 over a fast track.

"Today she proved she's a Grade 1 type of filly," Saez said.

An odds-on favorite in her previous wins, Shred the Gnar was sent off as the third choice in the Chilukki and paid $7.20. She races for Travis Boersma's Flying Dutchman and is trained by Brian Lynch.

"She's loaded with talent," Lynch said. "It means a whole lot more coming back off the layoff like that. I think she could go longer if she needed to, and the future is very bright for her."

One Magic Philly, the top older contender in the Chilukki, chased in second throughout and finished one length ahead of 1.36-1 favorite Ragtime. Impel, Zadorsky, and Literate rounded out the order of finish.

Shred the Gnar, by Into Mischief and out of the Bernardini mare Aspen Light, is a full sister to multiple Grade 3 winner Owendale. She was sold for $610,000 as a Fasig-Tipton Saratoga yearling.
