Reneesgotzip much the best in C.E.R.F.

Lanni Family Trust's Reneesgotzip sprinted clear after the break and was never threatened in Wednesday's $103,390 at Del Mar, proving best by a 5 1/4- length decision. Winner of the 2012 edition of the six-furlong sprint, the classy five-year-old mare just missed the track record when stopping the teletimer in 1:08 2/5 and improved her record to 5-4-0-1 on Del Mar's Polytrack. Edwin Maldonado was up for trainer Peter Miller. A dead-heat second in the 2013 Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint, Reneesgotzip was making only her second start of the season. She missed the break and finished third when opening 2014 with a title defense in the August 17 Rancho Bernardo, with leading female sprinter Judy the Beauty proving best that afternoon, but there were no hiccups when the gates opened Wednesday. The daughter of City Zip was two lengths clear after an opening quarter-mile in :21 4/5 and lead by a similar margin after four furlongs in :44 3/5. Reneesgotzip drew off sharply into the stretch, widening her advantage to five lengths with a furlong remaining, and was under wraps late.

An overwhelming 3-5 favorite among eight fillies and mares, she returned a
paltry payout of $3.20.
Top Kisser easily proved second-best, about two lengths clear of Go West
Marie in third. Completing the order of finish were Kinz Funky Monkey, Fanticola,
Clearly Confused, Llandudno and Belle de Lune. Maker or Breaker was withdrawn.
Reneesgotzip pocketed her fifth stakes victory and her career line now reads
15-8-4-2, $869,860. She's placed in the last two editions of the Breeders' Cup
Turf Sprint, finishing third in 2012, and has posted four runner-up efforts in
Grade 1 events.
Bred in Kentucky by John Liviakis, she's out of the winning Distorted Humor
mare No Dress Code and initially sold for $3,500 as a 2010 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky
October yearling. The chestnut was purchased by her connections the following
year for $45,000 at the OBS April sale.
Reneesgotzip hails from the immediate female of multiple Grade 2-winning
millionaire Big Jag and her fourth maternal dam, Cascapedia, was the champion
handicap mare of 1977.

The C.E.R.F. was one of three stakes on the Del Mar Futurity undercard along with the $97,000 Pirate's Bounty and $101,000 Rodney E. Orr's homebred Ankeny Hill earned his first stakes victory in the Pirate's Bounty, gamely prevailing by a half-length. With Tyler Baze up, the Mark Glatt-trained colt chased 1-2 favorite Seeking the Sherif through splits of :22 and :44 3/5 before overhauling the pacesetter in upper stretch, and the four-year-old withstood the late charge of runner-up Ain't No Other. Off as the 6-1 third choice in the five-horse field, Ankeny Hill paid $14 to win after completing six furlongs in 1:09 2/5. Ain't No Other finished a half-length better than Seeking the Sheriff, who was exiting a close third in the Grade 1 Pat O'Brien. No Silent and Bull Dozer came next under the wire and Heir of Storm was scratched.

A Kentucky-bred son of Sharp Humor, Ankeny Hill is out of the stakes-winning
Sandpit mare Ashbecca. The dark bay raced for a claiming tag several times last
season and was making his second stakes attempt Wednesday, finishing fourth in
the Clocker's Corner on Santa Anita's turf earlier this season. With the $55,500
winner's share, Ankeny Hill has now earned $208,307 from a 13-5-2-1 ledger.
Later on the program, Daddy D T broke his maiden by a half-length in the Oak
Tree Juvenile Turf.
The race was delayed when Increase got stuck under the gate, which was
eventually pulled back onto the main track in an effort to free the bay colt. He
was scratched due to the incident, as was Visitation and Kenji's Thunder.
Once the race got underway, Daddy D T settled just past midpack under jockey
Corey Nakatani. The pair bided their time as Pioneerof the West and Dallas
Skyline duked it out on the front end through fractions of :23 1/5, :47 4/5 and
1:12. Daddy D T abandoned his inside spot and angled out wide to rally down the
lane, just taking command in the shadow of the wire to finish a mile on the firm
turf in 1:36 1/5.
The Scat Daddy ridgling paid $7.20 as the 5-2 second choice for earning his
first victory. Daddy D T was sixth, beaten 10 lengths, in his debut for trainer
John Sadler on August 9 on Del Mar's Polytrack and now boasts $60,250 in career
earnings.
Campaigned by Hronis Racing LLC, Daddy D T was as $250,000 Keeneland
September yearling. He is out of the stakes-placed Awesome Again mare Issues,
making him a full brother to Grade 3-placed stakes winner Amarish, and his fifth
dam is Broodmare of the Year Smartaire.
