Last updated: 9/17/06 8:21 PM

Our Canterbury Stables' RETRIBUTION (Rob 'N Gin) took the lead out of the

gate from his 5 post and was never headed while recording an easy 4 1/4-length

victory in the $110,600

Ashley T. Cole

H. at Belmont Park on Sunday. The John Hertler

charge set splits of :23 1/5, :46 1/5, 1:10 3/5 and 1:36 1/5 before finishing 1

1/8 miles on the yielding inner turf in 1:49 1/5.

With Chantal Sutherland aboard, Retribution outran his 25-1 odds as the

longest shot on the board to pay $52.50, $14 and $6 while heading the $183.50

exacta. Certifiably Crazy (Fit to Fight) had his two-race win streak broken here

but held second by a length to return $3.10 and $2.50 as the near 3-2 favorite. Foreverness (Island Whirl) came late to grab third by a neck over Dave (Ends

Well), returning $4.60 at 8-1 and finishing the $1,644 trifecta (5-4-7). Next

across the line were Golden Commander (Deputy Commander), Behind the Screen (Royal

Anthem), Pa Pa Da (Incurable Optimist) and Incredible Speed (Incurable

Optimist).

Retribution won the Cormorant S. last November, but hasn't been successful

against stakes company again until this one. The bay gelding improved his record to

21-6-5-1 and improved his earnings to $290,203 with this victory.

Hertler said his charge would return on New York Showcase Day, October 21, at Belmont

Park in the $125,000 Mohawk H.

One race earlier, Clear Stars Stable's ZIPPY SHANNON (City Zip) zoomed six

furlongs on the fast dirt in 1:09 3/5 to take the $107,300

Schenectady H. under Pablo Morales. The sophomore miss led older rivals

through fractions of :22 1/5, :44 4/5 and :56 4/5 before finishing three parts

of a length in front of her nearest pursuer at the line. Sent off at 17-1, the

Richard Schosberg-conditioned chestnut gave back $36, $12.40 and $9.90 while

keying exotics of $212.50 (exacta) and $1,324 (1-5-6 trifecta).

Her Royal Nibs (Formal Gold) ran in second throughout to return $4.70 and

$4.40 at 8-5 for finishing 4 1/4 lengths in front of Carlow (Forever Silver),

who gave back $8.30 at 29-1. Fighting Speedy (Senor Speedy), Great Lady K (Kelly

Kip) and 4-5 favorite Gold Like U (Gold Token) finished out the order under the wire.

After making a successful stakes debut, Zippy Shannon now boasts an

11-6-2-2, $196,370, career mark. Schosberg mentioned the $125,000 Iroquois H.,

also on New York Showcase Day, as a possible next start for his charge.

Earlier on the card, Live Oak Plantation's AROUND THE CAPE (Carson City)

rallied along the outside in the $70,500

Lure S.

under Eibar Coa to take the six-furlong test by a head at the line. Sent off the

near 5-2 favorite, the Bill Mott-trained four-year-old posted a final time of

1:08 3/5 in the off-the-turf, fast dirt affair while adding just a second stakes

win to his record, which now stands at 15-6-3-3, $293,871. In late May, the bay captured

the Jaipur H. (G3), setting a new course record of 1:07 1/5 for six furlongs on

the turf.
