Santa Anita H. (G1) winner ROCK HARD TEN (Kris S.) worked before the 1ST race

at Santa Anita on Thursday in preparation for the $4 million Breeders' Cup

Classic (G1) on October 29 at Belmont Park.

The Richard Mandella-trained colt was timed in fractions of :24 3/5, :49,

1:01 1/5 and 1:13 1/5 before finishing seven furlongs in 1:25 3/5. The massive

four-year-old galloped out a mile on the fast track in 1:39 3/5 under exercise

rider Paul Nilluang. He worked in company with three-year-old maiden

Dixie Glow (Dixie Union), who was timed in 1:27.

"He went terrific," Mandella said. "He went great."

Rock Hard Ten is scheduled to board a plane for New York early Sunday.

"We'll probably just get him there and just gallop him," Mandella said.

"Maybe a little open gallop before the race but not much."

Asked if he was satisfied the colt was coming up to the Classic at his peak,

Mandella said with conviction, "Absolutely, yes."

Rock Hard Ten captured the Goodwood Breeders' Cup H. (G2) by one length on

October 1 in his first race since winning the Big 'Cap in early March.

During normal training hours, Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf (G1) hopeful

FLIP FLOP (Fr) (Zieten) worked six furlongs in a bullet 1:12 4/5 over a firm

turf course at Santa Anita. The move was the fastest of nine works at the distance.

Flip Flop most recently finished second to Megahertz (GB) (Pivotal) in the

Yellow Ribbon S. (G1) on October 1.

"It was a very nice work," trainer Ben Cecil said. "She broke behind two

workmates and finished well. I wasn't planning on running, but Mr. Tanaka (owner

Gary Tanaka) was keen on it. We know it's a very hard field but she is doing

extremely well since the Yellow Ribbon."

Garrett Gomez will ride Flip Flop in the Filly & Mare Turf.

Undefeated sprint star LOST IN THE FOG (Lost Soldier) breezed five furlongs

in 1:00 2/5 over a fast track at Golden Gate Fields in his final major work

before the Breeders' Cup Sprint (G1). Unlike his prior work, when he sizzled

five-eighths in a bullet :57 1/5 on September 23 at Golden Gate, Thursday's

breeze was the seventh fastest of 23 works at the distance.

Lost in the Fog was timed in fractions of :12 1/5, :24, :36 and :48 1/5

under jockey Russell Baze.

"I called in a five-eighths work to the clockers, but it was closer to six

furlongs," trainer Greg Gilchrist said. "He went in :12s all the way around. I

cautioned Russell that I didn't want to see any :57 1/5s like we got last time.

You don't have to break his neck to get him to go in 1:00 2/5. He's pretty easy

to work, but if you start him out fast, you're never going to get him back."

"It was a good work," Baze said. "He was up more on the bit today than he was

the other day when he went too fast. As soon as he switched leads at the head of

the lane, he picked it up on his own to the wire. He's pretty darn hard to judge

(in terms of pace in his workouts) because he does things effortlessly."

Lost in the Fog, who has yet to be seriously tested in 10 career starts, will

board a plane for New York Saturday. The dark bay colt, who owns two tracks records and

a large, irregular blaze, has won nine stakes, including the

prestigious seven-furlong King's Bishop S. (G1) at Saratoga.

At Belmont Park, SENSATION (Dixie Union) breezed five furlongs in 1:01 1/5

over a fast track in preparation for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1).

The move was the fourth fastest of 11 works at the distance. She worked in

company with Trippi Appeal (Trippi), who was awarded the same time.

The Stanley Hough-trained filly won her first two starts impressively before

finishing an even fourth in the Spinaway S. (G2) at

Saratoga. In her most recent start, the bay filly dueled for the early lead before romping home by 5 1/2

lengths in the Astarita S. (G3) over the Belmont main track on October 2.

"I thought it was a good work," Hough said. "She settled good and the horse

she worked with, they complement each other well.

"The Spinaway was her third race in six weeks and she didn't break well in

the race. She settled in then got shuffled back and never really got into the

race. She's better when she can get into it.

"(The Juvenile Fillies) is going to be an interesting race. I think she fits

with those fillies even though a few of them have won in longer races."

At Turfway Park, Kentucky Cup Juvenile S. (G3) hero STREAM CAT (Black

Minnaloushe) breezed five furlongs in a bullet 1:00 1/5 over the all-weather

Polytrack. The dark bay colt, trained by Patrick Biancone, most recently

finished third in the Breeders' Futurity (G1) at Keeneland. Stream Cat is headed

to the Breeders' Cup Juvenile (G1).

Grand Survival

(Grand Slam), also trained by Biancone, went the same distance in the same time.

In his last start, Grand Survival finished seventh as the even-money favorite in

the Arlington-Washington Breeders' Cup Futurity (G3).

The two workouts were easily the fastest of nine at the distance.
