Rock Hard Ten to Lane's End

Last updated: 12/9/05 3:46 PM

Multiple Grade 1 winner ROCK HARD TEN (Kris S.) will enter stud in 2006 at Lane's End

Farm near Versailles, Kentucky, for a fee of $50,000, live foal. The four-year-old

was undefeated in three starts this year for trainer Richard Mandella,

capturing the Santa Anita H. (G1), Strub S. (G2) and Goodwood Breeders' Cup H. (G2).

Rock Hard Ten would have been one of the top choices in the Breeders' Cup

Classic (G1), but he was forced to scratch after shedding a frog on his right

front foot. He was

then retired after tests revealed worn cartilage in his left front sesamoid.

As a three-year-old, Rock Hard Ten scored victories in the Swaps Breeders'

Cup S. (G2) and Malibu S. (G1). The dark bay finished second in the Preakness S. (G1) and Santa Anita Derby (G1),

in which he was disqualified for drifting in and placed third.

Campaigned by the partnership of Madeleine Pickens and Mercedes Stables, the

Kentucky-bred Rock Hard Ten compiled a record of 11-7-1-1 with

$1,870,380 in earnings over two seasons. He was produced by Prix Morny (Fr-G1)

heroine Tersa (Mr. Prospector), who was champion juvenile filly in France in

1988.
