Roman Ruler to stand at Hill 'n' Dale

Last updated: 8/9/05 2:13 PM

Upon his retirement from racing, ROMAN RULER (Fusaichi Pegasus) will enter

stud at Hill 'n' Dale Farm near Lexington, Kentucky.

The three-year-old, who was plagued by foot problems earlier this year,

returned to action in the July 4 Dwyer S. (G2) at Belmont Park, defeating

subsequent Jim Dandy S. (G2) winner Flower Alley (Distorted Humor) by a half-length in the 1 1/16-mile test.

On Sunday, Roman Ruler stalked the pace from the outside, then drove to a 1

1/4-length victory over a stubborn Sun King (Charismatic) in the $1 million

Haskell Invitational H. (G1) at Monmouth Park, running the nine-furlong distance

in 1:49 4/5.

The Bob Baffert trainee is being pointed toward the $1 million Travers S.

(G1) at Saratoga on August 27.

Overall, Roman Ruler has won five of eight starts and earned $1,020,800.

As a two-year-old, Roman Ruler broke his maiden at first asking, then

captured the Best Pal S. (G2) by seven lengths at Del Mar. He finished second by

a neck to eventual juvenile champion Declan's Moon (Malibu Moon) in the Del Mar

Mar Futurity (G2), then rolled to 4 1/2-length score in the Norfolk S. (G2)

before finishing a troubled fifth as the favorite in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile

(G1) at Lone Star Park.

Out of the unraced Silver Deputy mare Silvery Swan, Roman Ruler is a

half-brother to Grade 1 winner El Corredor (Mr. Greeley), who entered stud at

Hill 'n' Dale in 2002. He is also a half-brother to Grade 3 winner Silver

Tornado (Maria's Mon).
