Run Away proves best in Santa Anita Juvenile

Run Away did just that after an early duel with Argosy Fleet to register a 1 1/2-length triumph Monday in the $100,345 Santa Anita Juvenile.

The 3-5 favorite in a field of six, the Kaleem Shah-owned colt pulled away in the final furlong of the 5 1/2-furlong dash on a fast track, completing the distance in 1:04.17 under Flavien Prat.

"I think the added distance will be good for him," Prat said. "I liked the way he galloped out today and the last eighth of a mile was good as well."

Run Away paid $3.20. Argosy Fleet held second by 1 1/4 lengths over Big Boy Candy, with Encumbered, Sir Valentine, and Cono rounding out the order of finish.

A 2 1/4-length debut winner May 26 going 4 1/2 furlongs, Run Away increased his bankroll to $92,400.

"This is a good minded kind of colt," trainer Simon Callaghan said. "We'll go to Del Mar and look at the Best Pal (G2) and the Futurity (G1)."

Bred in Kentucky by Erv Woolsey and Ralph Kinder, Run Away was a $325,000 purchase at the Barretts March sale. He's by Run Away and Hide and out of the Pulpit mare Cabales.
