Saint Liam tops Foster

Last updated: 6/15/05 5:13 PM

Grade 1 victor SAINT LIAM (Saint Ballado), an authoritative winner of the

Clark H. (G2) last November at Churchill Downs, returns to Louisville, Kentucky,

for the Spring/Summer Meet's centerpiece event for older horses, Saturday's

$750,000 Stephen Foster H. (G1). Now trained by Bobby Frankel, who takes over

for the suspended Richard Dutrow, Saint Liam heads a field of eight entered for

the 1 1/8-mile event. The five-year-old horse, who opened 2005 with an

impressive score in the Donn H. (G1) before finishing sixth as the odds-on

favorite in the Santa Anita H. (G1) last out, is the 121-pound highweight with

jockey Edgar Prado.

COLONIAL COLONY (Pleasant Colony) and PERFECT DRIFT (Dynaformer), the last

two winners of the Stephen Foster, are back for this year's 24th edition. The

former is winless from 10 starts since posting an upset at 62-1 last year, but

Perfect Drift has continued to be a force in the handicap division, earning more

than $3 million in his 29-race career. The Murray Johnson-trained six-year-old

gelding has always run well over Churchill's main track.

BADGE OF SILVER (Silver Deputy) owns strong credentials, winning the New

Orleans H. (G2) and Hal's Hope H. (G3) earlier this year, and locally based

EUROSILVER (Unbridled's Song) recorded a Grade 3 victory two starts back at

Gulfstream Park.

The improving GOULDINGS GREEN (Charismatic), who enters off a close runner-up

finish in his stakes bow, Arlington Park's Hanshin H. (G3), leads the post

parade under a 112-pound impost that includes Mike Smith. Next comes M B SEA

(Alphabet Soup), Pat Day, 113; Saint Liam; Badge of Silver, Jerry Bailey, 119;

PRESIDENTIALAFFAIR (Not for Love), Todd Glasser, 115; Colonial Colony, Robby

Albarado, 114; Perfect Drift, Gary Stevens, 117; and Eurosilver, Rafael Bejarano,

113.

"Stephen Foster Super Saturday" features six stakes worth a combined $1.75

million under the Twin Spires.
