INITIATION, 3, f, by Deputy Minister—Proposal, by Mt. Livermore O-Augustin Stable; B-Blum Peter E. (Ky)

A compact field of six will go 1 1/16 miles over the Cushion Track at Santa Anita

to contest the rescheduled $100,000 Santa Ysabel S. (G3) on Sunday. TURN AWAY (Empire

Maker) endured a chaotic trip when a favored third in the Golden Rod S. (G2),

and if the newly turned three-year-old could put it all together, she's surely

the one to beat in here. Conditioned by Bobby Frankel, the bay lass debuted at

Churchill in October and impressed with a 9 1/4-length maiden thrashing beneath

today's rider, Rafael Bejarano. The well-bred miss has worked exclusively over

synthetic going and should handle this surface just fine.

Alcibiades S. (G1) fourth INITIATION (Deputy Minister) was a smart winner of

the Glorious Song S. over Woodbine's Polytrack last out and has progressed

nicely to date for trainer Graham Motion. The Kentucky-bred has yet to run a bad

one, and although she has yet to post a superb BRIS Speed rating, the filly has

displayed good tactical speed and a fine closing kick. The rail draw and the

presence of Julien Leparoux should allow this miss to complete the exacta.

KAZAMIRA (Dynaformer) was a nice maiden winner in her latest and will jump up

into graded stakes company for conditioner John Shirreffs. The dark bay has

shown ability in both of her sprint starts, but her pedigree and running style

suggest that she should really flourish in two-turn events. We love the fact

that the Kentucky-bred was well bet in her debut, and has posted a trio of useful

works in advance of this. This filly may peak later in the year, but her

ability should find her in the top three under Mike Smith.

GRACE ANATOMY (Aldebaran) was third in the Alcibiades but has posted a pair

of weak efforts in her two subsequent Grade 1 starts for Doug O' Neill. The bay lass will add

blinkers and Garrett Gomez for this endeavor, but we feel that she's a bet

against in this spot.

FINAL FLING (Bertrando) put in a sustained run to topple state-bred maiden

foes but will face infinitely tougher in here. The Jeff Mullins trainee has been

consistent if nothing else, but she'd be a minor shock in this affair. Joe

Talamo will be in the irons. RAREVILLE (Petionville) will be making her Cushion

Track debut in this spot, having posted her two initial starts on the turf. She

was well beaten in her only try against stakes company, and we'll just watch to

see if the surface switch improves her chances.
