Last updated: 1/23/07 2:17 PM

Multiple stakes winner SELVATICA (Forestry) sold for a record price of

$560,000 at Monday's opening session of the Barretts January Mixed Sale in

Pomona, California. Narvick International purchased the six-year-old mare from

the consignment of Havens Bloodstock Agency, agent for Granja Vista Del Rio.

Trained by Jeff Mullins, Selvatica won three straight stakes races last fall,

the Bangles and Beads S. at Fairplex Park, the Pine Tree S. at Oak Tree and the

Manta S. at Hollywood Park, before finishing 11th at odds of 9-2 in the Monrovia

H. (G3) at Santa Anita on New Year's Day. To date, the dark bay Kentucky-bred

has earned $219,720 from a record of 10-6-3-0.

Selvatica, who was cataloged as Hip No. 81, is out of multiple stakes winner

and Grade 3-placed Pareja (Strawberry Road [Aus]), a half-sister to

stakes-placed Viento Bailador (Naskra) and Tengo Prisa (Relaunch), the dam of

2003 Los Angeles Times H. (G3) winner and $431,880-earner Hombre Rapido

(Falstaff).

On Monday, the sale company reported 223 horses sold for $2,562,600, a 6.7

percent increase compared to the same session last year when 239 horses changed

hands for $2,402,600. The average price rose 14.3 percent, from $10,053 to

$11,491, while the median price increased 25 percent, from $4,000 to $5,000.

There were 48 horses listed as not sold, compared to 32 last year.

The second and final session will be held on Tuesday, beginning at 11 a.m.

(PST).
