Two leading contenders for Saturday's Swaps S. (G2), SIDNEY'S CANDY

(Candy Ride [Arg]) and GOLDEN ITIZ (Tiznow), turned in their final major works

over Hollywood Park's Cushion Track on Sunday.

Santa Anita Derby (G1) hero Sidney's Candy drilled seven furlongs in 1:25 3/5

with jockey Joe Talamo aboard.

"He went really smooth all the way," trainer John Sadler said.

Last time out, Sidney's Candy tired to 17th after chasing the pace in the

Kentucky Derby (G1). Sadler said that a combination of a bad post (20), a sloppy

track and a fast pace were too much for Sidney's Candy to handle at Churchill

Downs.

"We just gave him time to get his energy back up," Sadler said. "He's had

plenty of works over this track since he came back."

Indeed, Sidney's Candy has been a regular presence on the worktab, with

Sunday's move being his eighth at Hollywood since May 23.

Sadler added that he might also enter TWIRLING CANDY, another Candy Ride (Arg)

colt owned by Jenny Craig, but is unlikely to start in the Swaps. A debut maiden

winner last November, Twirling Candy was not seen again until May 29, when he

posted a smashing 7 3/4-length victory in a 6 1/2-furlong allowance/optional

claimer.

Golden Itiz will try to stay on the upgrade Saturday

Swaps-bound Golden Itiz, the winner of the June 19 Affirmed H. (G3) in his

stakes bow, traveled five-eighths in 1:02 2/5 under exercise rider Jose

Dominguez.

"Golden Itiz worked alone this morning," trainer Ron Ellis said Sunday. "He

worked with Rail Trip (Jump Start) last time."

Jockey Tyler Baze has the call back on Golden Itiz, shooting for his fourth

straight victory.

Ellis said he also planned to enter PINAL (Rocky Bar) to assure an honest

pace. Pinal was claimed for $50,000 by Jay Em Ess Stable, which also owns Golden

Itiz, out of his last race, a wire-to-wire victory at six furlongs on turf July

4.

Other probable Swaps starters are the respective second and third from the

Affirmed, SKIPSHOT (Skip Away) and ALPHIE'S BET (Tribal Rule). Joel Rosario will

pick up the mount on Skipshot, while Mike Smith takes the return call aboard

Sham S. (G3) and Snow Chief S. winner Alphie's Bet.

Two other nominees will probably skip the race.

Trainer Bob Baffert said that CONCORD POINT (Tapit) ran hard winning the June

26 Iowa Derby (G3) in track-record time at Prairie Meadows and would probably

await another spot. Trainer Art Sherman said that he was leaning toward the

opening-day Oceanside S. on July 21 at Del Mar for SUMMER MOVIE (Holy Bull),

fourth in the Affirmed.
