Sienna tops Inglis

SIENNA (Octagonal), a six-year-old mare in foal to Arena (Danehill), topped

Thursday's first session of the Inglis March Thoroughbred Sale at Oaklands

Junction with a final bid of A$70,000. Consigned as Lot 136 by Woodlands Stud as

part of its annual reduction, the mare was purchased by Queensland's Heinrich

Bloodstock Syndicate. Sienna is out of Group 2 winner Seika (Canny Lad).

During Thursday's session of the March sale, Inglis sold 138 lots for an

aggregate of A$939,700. The first session average was A$6,809 -- up 14 percent

from the 2006 total sale average, while the median was A$3,050. The clearance

rate was 88.5 percent.

"I was delighted with today's results, which is indicative of the sustained

growth in the Thoroughbred industry," Inglis Director Peter Heagney said. "It

also emphasizes the role that the March Thoroughbred Sale plays, providing

buyers with the opportunity to purchase a wide range of bloodstock, particularly

broodmares, with many of these in foal to leading stallions and others with

quality foals at foot. Woodlands Stud's decision to utilize March for its annual

reduction also underlines the auction's relevance to the nation's sales diary."

The March sale continues Friday with yearlings, weanlings, unbroken stock,

fillies and mares, and colts and geldings up for sale.
