Silver Train to stand at Vinery

Last updated: 6/1/06 3:44 PM

Multiple Grade 1 winner SILVER TRAIN (Old Trieste) will stand at Vinery near

Lexington, Kentucky, upon the conclusion of his racing career. The four-year-old

colt won the 2005 Breeders' Cup Sprint (G1) and most recently captured the

Metropolitan H. (G1) on Memorial Day.

"We have followed the career of Silver Train very closely since his victory

in the Breeders' Cup Sprint last year, and his recent victory in the

Metropolitan certainly establishes him as a top stallion prospect," Vinery

Co-General Manager Tom Ludt said. "He will be syndicated for stud duty and we

will announce his fee at the end of his career."

Silver Train won last year's one-mile Jerome H. (G2) by five lengths in 1:34

1/5 prior to taking the six-furlong Breeders' Cup Sprint by a head in 1:08 4/5.

The Buckram Oak Farm colorbearer held off fast-closing Commonwealth Breeders'

Cup S. (G2) winner Sun King (Charismatic) by a head in the Met Mile, completing

the distance in 1:34 1/5.

To date, Silver Train has compiled a record of 5-3-3 from 14 starts and

earned $1,127,345. The Richard Dutrow Jr.-trained four-year-old will likely make

his next start in the seven-furlong Tom Fool H. (G2) on July 16 at Belmont Park.

A grandson of A.P. Indy, Silver Train is out of multiple stakes-placed Ridden

In Thestars (Cormorant), who earned $178,998. He sold for $140,000 at the 2003

Fasig-Tipton Kentucky July Yearling Sale.
