Sir Percy given some time off

Multiple Group 1 winner SIR PERCY (Mark of Esteem [Ire]) has been put on the

shelf following two disappointing efforts, trainer Marcus Tregoning announced.

While not ruling retirement out, the Lambourn conditioner said that connections

would "give it some time" before deciding if last year's Epsom Derby (Eng-G1)

hero is to run again.

"It's always going to be a possibility that he may not race again, because

we've got to think about the future for him," Tregoning said on Thursday. "We

haven't made a firm decision and sometimes with a break horses can come back, so

we'll just have to give it some time and think about what we're doing."

Since Sir Percy finished fourth in the Dubai Sheema Classic (UAE-G1) at Nad

Al Sheba on March 31, the four-year-old had finished down the field in both the

June 1 Coronation Cup (Eng-G1) at Epsom and last Wednesday's Prince of Wales's

S. (Eng-G1) at Royal Ascot.

"His run in Dubai was very encouraging and he picked up some nice prize

money, so the hope was all would be well for this year, but it hasn't worked out

so I'm just going to sit back and wait with him," Tregoning added. "It might

well be he'll come back in the autumn."
