Smart prospects on offer at

Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale

Many top performers have come out of Tattersalls' Autumn Horses in Training

Sale,

although few at last year's renewal could have predicted that the unraced

two-year-old lurking as Lot No. 888 would go on to classic success this year. While

it might be too much to hope that there will be another horse to emulate the Two

Thousand Guineas (Eng-G1) and Jacques le Marois (Fr-G1) hero Makfi, who was

offered out of Marcus Tregoning's stable when selling for 26,000 guineas, there are

many attractive prospects among the 1,582 lots cataloged at the 2010 sale, which

gets underway Monday.

The traditional top-end demand from the United States was as not as strong as in the

past at the 2009 sale, but agents looking for prospects for the Dubai Carnival,

Hong Kong and staying horses for Australia, as well as the domestic jump buyers,

helped ensure a strong trade. One of the classiest three-year-olds cataloged is

set to appear just before the close of play Monday evening in the shape of Lot

405, the Pat Eddery-trained HEARTS OF FIRE (Firebreak), winner of last season's Gran Criterium

(Ity-G1) and a close third in this year's St James's Palace

S. (Eng-G1) at Royal Ascot.

Shortly beforehand, Lot 375 should prove popular following a

success at Newbury Saturday. Three-year-old LOST IN THE MOMENT (Danehill

Dancer) -- a three-parts brother to Garden City S. (G1) heroine Luas Line (Ire) (Danehill) -- scored for owners Michael Tabor and Susan Roy and

trainer Jeremy Noseda. Lot 127, the Michael Wigham-trained CREDIT SWAP (Diktat), heads to the sale on the back of his Cambridgeshire H. victory, while

the always popular draft from Sir Mark Prescott's local stable includes Lots 734

and Lot 737 -- FORTUNI (Montjeu [Ire]) and COMEDY ACT (Motivator) -- who should appeal to the jumping market.

Trainer Brian Meehan is set to field an attractive team, including Lot 768,

five-year-old entire CAT JUNIOR (Storm Cat), whose Group 3 win at Meydan in

March is likely to make him attractive to Dubai buyers, while the Queen's

KINGDOM OF FIFE (Kingmambo), Lot 680, will be another five-year-old with a

high rating when appearing from Sir Michael Stoute's yard. His stablemate, JEDI (Pivotal), offered as

Lot 681, finished fourth in Saturday's St

Simon S. (Eng-G3) at Newbury and is likely to appeal to buyers from Australia, where

his half-brother Warringah (Galileo [Ire]) contests many of the leading

staying events.

Among others with high ratings suitable for the Dubai Carnival

include Lot 259, Highclere Thoroughbred Racing's MARTYR (Cape Cross [Ire])

and a pair of three-year-olds who head to Tattersalls on the back of wins, Lot

521, GUNNER LINDLEY (Medicean) and Lot 632, SPOKEN (Medicean).

Star sprinters catalogued include Lot 1011, AMOUR PROPRE (Paris

House), winner of last year's Palace House S. (Eng-G3) at Newmarket for trainer

Henry Candy; the Ger Lyons-trained RAIN DELAYED (Oasis Dream [GB]), Lot

582; and the Noseda-trained GROUP THERAPY (Choisir), Lot 1057,

who finished second in a Goodwood Group 2 in July.

Decent two-year-olds always have an appeal at this sale and Lot 590, ELECTRIC

WAVES (Exceed And Excel), will have a following after her victory in the Cornwallis S.

(Eng-G3) last time out for owner John Fretwell, who also offers

recent Leicester conditions event winner MARKED CARD (Kheleyf) as Lot 368.

Lot 641, DUBAWI GOLD (Dubawi), finished only ninth in Saturday's Racing Post

Trophy (Eng-G1) at Doncaster, but should still prove the standout in a draft offered by

owner Andrew Tinkler on the back of his Ascot success earlier this month. Lot

1033, NIGHT CARNATION (Sleeping Indian [GB]), and Lot 312, GALTYMORE LAD (Indesatchel), head to the sale with recent black-type updates after finishing second

and third in a six-furlong listed race at Doncaster Saturday.

The Meehan pair of Gimcrack S. (Eng-G2) runner-up CROWN PROSECUTOR (Exceed And Excel),

Lot

610, and runaway Leicester maiden winner MARDEN(Danehill Dancer),

Lot 613, are other eye-catching two-year-olds. Meanwhile, Lot 1067 -- the Noseda-trained

FORMOSINA (Footstepsinthesand [GB]) -- won the Railway S. (Ire-G2) at

The Curragh in June, while the Prescott-trained KRYPTON FACTOR (Kyllachy), Lot 748, has scored five times this year.

Older horses with positive recent updates include the James Fanshawe-trained

PRIMAEVAL (Pivotal), Lot 795 and a winner at Kempton on Saturday night, and

Lot 648 TABLE MOUNTAIN (Milan [GB]), who has scored twice at Navan this

month for Aidan O'Brien and is likely to be in big demand as a jumping prospect.

"A 26,000 guineas classic winner is the best possible advertisement for any

sale," Tattersalls Marketing Director Jimmy George said Sunday, "and Makfi's

achievements have very much caught the imagination of buyers throughout the

world.

"This year's Autumn Horses in Training catalog has plenty of quality catering

for every requirement and there are more than 100 group/listed performers in the

catalog as well as outstanding consignments from many of the

world's owner/breeders."

The sale runs through Thursday. For more information, visit
