After being postponed due to a winter storm, the Southwest (G3) will be held

Sunday at Oaklawn Park. The 1 1/16-mile event is part of the Road to the

Kentucky Derby series, offering points on a 10-4-2-1 basis to the top four

respective finishers.

The Southwest was originally part of Monday's Presidents Day card at the Hot

Springs, Arkansas track.

Oaklawn officials announced Monday that if the weather cleared up to allow

training Tuesday morning, the Southwest would be held Saturday. Sunday was the

alternative if the track couldn't open until Wednesday or Thursday, and freezing

conditions kept the track closed on Tuesday morning.

Twelve three-year-olds were initially entered, but the Southwest will be

re-drawn on Thursday.

J S Bach (Tale of the Cat), an impressive Gulfstream maiden winner for Todd

Pletcher, and Lecomte (G2) runner-up War Story (Northern Afleet) were part of

the original field, but both runners have been entered in Saturday's Risen Star

(G2) at Fair Grounds and are expected to bypass the Southwest.

Oaklawn is scheduled to resume live racing on Thursday.
