R. D. Hubbard's SPRING HOUSE (Chester House) stormed to the front in early

stretch and powered clear to a facile 2 1/4-length tally in the $150,000

San Luis Obispo H.

(G2) at Santa Anita on Saturday. The 8-5 favorite broke well and rated in

midpack early before putting in his winning run beneath Garrett Gomez,

eventually finishing 1 1/2 miles over the firm turf in 2:27 1/5. The

Julio Canani trainee paid

$5.40, $3.60 and $2.60 while keying $1 exotics worth $46.10 (exacta), $180.80

(trifecta) and $949.80 (5-9-10-1 superfecta).

Church Service (Pulpit), who was claimed for $50,000 in his prior race, made

a big move entering the lane and closed well to finish second as the 20-1

longshot. The runner-up was worth $15.80 and $7.60 while three parts of a length clear of

4-1 second choice On the Acorn (GB) (Inchinor [GB]). Show returned $3.20. Porfido

(Chi) (Mash One [Chi]) led at the top of the stretch but had nothing left late

in finishing fourth, capping the super at nearly 6-1. Pacesetter Sohgol (Ire)

(Singspiel [Ire]) was next and followed by Isipingo (Horse Chestnut [SAf]),

Rocket Legs (Dynaformer) and Sudan (Ire) (Peintre Celebre). Add Heat (Unusual

Heat), Niagara Causeway (Giant's Causeway) and defending champion Obrigado (Fr) (Enrique) were

withdrawn.

Spring House continued his strong run since transferring to the West Coast,

amassing a 6-2-1-3 mark in the Golden State, which includes a win in the

Carleton F. Burke H. (G3), and placings in the Hollywood Turf Cup (G1), Del

Mar H. (G2), Sunset H. (G2) and Round Table H. For his career, the gelded

six-year-old sports a 30-6-5-11 record with $544,284 in earnings. The winner was bred in the Bluegrass State by Rio Claro Thoroughbreds,

Hubbard and C. Sczesny, and is out of the Group 2-winning Spring Star (Brz) (Itajara).

The mare is a half-sister to champion Verinha (Brz) (Baronius) and is from the

same family as Grade 1-winning sire Siphon (Itajara) and recent California Derby

hero Yankee Bravo (Yankee Gentleman).

Spring House has an unnamed two-year-old half-sister by Kafwain and an

unnamed yearling half-brother by Leroidesanimaux (Brz).
