Multiple stakes hero

STORM SURGE (Storm Cat), an easy winner of the

six-furlong Sugar Bowl S. last out at Fair Grounds, heads a field of six

sophomores entered for Saturday's $100,000 LeComte S. (G3) in the Crescent City.

The Dallas Stewart-trained colt will stretch out to two turns for the one-mile

contest and is seeking his third stakes score, having also taken the

seven-furlong Lone Star Juvenile S. on the Breeders' Cup undercard. Leading Fair

Grounds' rider Robby Albarado has the mount.

SMOOTH BID (Rubiano), who comes off a victory in the Remington MEC Mile

S. for trainer Steve Asmussen, is among the top challengers. KANSAS CITY BOY

(Boston Harbor), an 8 1/4-length maiden victor in his last start at Churchill Downs,

and stakes winner MAJOR LEAGUE (Magic Cat) are also in the lineup.

The complete LeComte field, from rail with riders and weights, is Major

League, Corey Lanerie, 122; Kansas City Boy, Carlos Marquez Jr., 114; SILVER

HAZE (Silver Deputy), Elvis Perrodin, 114; BILOXI PLACE (Seattle Slew), Javier

Castellano, 114; Smooth Bid, Jerry Bailey, 122; and Storm Surge, 122.

The $100,000 Tiffany Lass S., a one-mile test for three-year-old fillies,

will be two races earlier on Saturday's card and features five-time stakes

winner PUNCH APPEAL (Successful Appeal), who exits a 5 1/2-length victory in the

Delta Princess S. at Delta Downs. The Asmussen charge, who also counts wins in

the Kentucky Cup Juvenile Fillies S. and Pocahontas S., will have Bailey in the

saddle and faces six rivals.

CHUBBS LAST CALL (Dixieland Heat), who will carry a 114-pound impost with

Lanerie in the saddle, leads the Tiffany Lass post parade and will be followed

by EYES ON EDDY (Touch Gold), Eddie Martin Jr., 112; Punch Appeal, 122; EMMY'S

STORM (Stormy Atlantic), Marquez, 112; THE BETER MAN CAN (Lord Avie), Perrodin,
