Street Cry colt tops final session of strong Fasig-Tipton

Saratoga sale

Business was up across the board at the conclusion of the two-day

Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Selected Yearlings Sale on Tuesday night.

The auction house reported that 145 yearlings sold for $46,755,000, an

increase of 40.5 percent over last year when 114 horses grossed $33,284,000. The

average was up 10.4 percent, from $291,965 to $322,448, while the median jumped

5.3 percent, from $237,500 to $250,000.

John Ferguson bought the session-topping colt, a son of Street Cry, for $1.4

million. Hip No. 168, foaled on February 12, was offered by Paramount Sales,

agent.

The Kentucky-bred was reared by Rcuandry (A.P. Indy), a half-sister to Grade

1 winner Honey Ryder (Lasting Approval), Grade 3-winning producer Cuando Puede

(Lord at War) and stakes-winning producer Cuando (Lord at War). All are out of

Cuando Quiere (Affirmed), who is also the second dam of Grade 2 winner Dominus

and Grade 3 queen Hit It Rich, both by Smart Strike.

The colt was led out unsold following a bid of $285,000 at the Fasig-Tipton

November sale.

Hip 170, a Malibu Moon filly, sold to Steven W. Young, agent, for $800,000.

The March 16 New York-bred was consigned by Hill 'n' Dale Sales Agency.

Produced by Red Hot Bertie (Tabasco Cat), the yearling is a full sister to

Grade 2-placed Cue the Moon and a half-sister to multiple stakes winner Red Hot

Buddha (Buddha) and the stakes-placed Knockout Bertie (Distorted Humor). Red Hot

Bertie is herself a half-sister to Grade 2 winners Allamerican Bertie (Quiet

American) and Hurricane Bertie (Storm Boot).

Two yearlings brought $750,000 each. The first, a filly named TAPPIN TIME

(Tapit), was gaveled down to Cheyenne Stables. The April 5 Kentucky-bred,

consigned by Lane's End, agent, is out of stakes winner Princess Arabella (Any

Given Saturday), a half-sister to multiple Grade 3-placed stakes winner Dyna's

Lassie (Dynaformer).

Also going for $750,000 was Hip 202, a colt by The Factor signed for by

Willis Horton. The March 11 Kentucky-bred, reared by Street Scene (Zafonic), is

a half-brother to Group 1-placed stakes winner Traffic Guard (More Than Ready)

and the stakes-placed Seanchai (English Channel). He is from the family of

Grade/Group 1 winners Erins Isle (Busted) and Chief Advocate (Law Society).

The second session results saw 75 yearlings sell for $25,010,000, an increase

of 66.5 percent over last year's corresponding session when 50 head brought

$15,017,000. The session average was up 11 percent, from $300,340 to $333,467,

while the session median rose 15.8 percent, from $237,500 to $275,000.
