Super Derby has Real Dandy

Last updated: 9/29/05 2:36 PM

West Virginia Derby (G3) winner REAL DANDY (Yankee Victor) is one of the top

draws for Saturday's $750,000 Super Derby (G2) at Louisiana Downs. Trained by

Steve Asmussen, the sophomore colt placed in four stakes earlier this season

before breaking through with his first black-type success two starts back at

Mountaineer Park. He'll attempt to bounce back from a fifth-place showing last

time in the Pennsylvania Derby (G2).

NOLAN'S CAT (Catienus) is only a maiden winner, but he showed class finishing

an excellent third in the Belmont S. (G1) and looms as a serious threat to earn

his first stakes victory on Saturday for trainer Dale Romans. A. P. ARROW (A.P.

Indy) exits an allowance score at Saratoga and may continue to show more in the

Super Derby for Hall of Fame conditioner D. Wayne Lukas. ROYAL SAINT (Saint

Ballado) is four for five in his career and highlights the local contingent,

having scored in the Prelude S. last out over the oval.

The complete field, from the rail with riders, is Real Dandy, Shaun

Bridgmohan; Nolan's Cat, John Jacinto; KILATES KISS (Kissin Kris), Carlos

Gonzalez; MILITARY MAJOR (Rahy), Jeffery Burningham; Royal Saint, Guy Smith;

SMOKESCREEN (Smoke Glacken), Mike Luzzi; SILVER HAZE (Silver Deputy), Elvis

Perrodin; THE DADDY (Valid Expectations), Pablo Morales; DESERT BREEZE (Deputy

Minister), Chris DeCarlo; and A. P. Arrow, Corey Lanerie.

All starters will carry 124 pounds.

Louisiana Downs will also offer the $125,000 Harrah's Juvenile S. and $75,000

Marie P. DeBartolo Oaks on the undercard.
