Take Charge Indy set for X-rays

Grade 1 Florida Derby winner Take Charge Indy, who finished a tailed-off 19th

in Saturday's Kentucky Derby, will be sent for X-rays after showing signs of a

problem during his cooling-out period.

"He was walking good when he first got

back, but he's walking a little gingerly on his left front," Byrne revealed. "Dr. Bill Baker was

here to look at him and felt we probably needed to X-ray the left front ankle

and the left front fetlock, so we're going to send him over to Dr. Baker's at the

first of the week for further evaluation.

"Obviously something went wrong. He's not 100 percent cooling out. It

looks like we need to further examine him. We don't know what's exactly wrong

with him at this point in time."

Take Charge Indy appeared to be in a good spot for the first six furlongs,

racing in striking range along jockey Calvin Borel's favorite rail spot. Then

the royally-bred son of A.P. Indy and Take Charge Lady suddenly gave way and

dropped back.

"I had a super trip, a dream trip

really," Borel said, "but I knew we were in trouble at the quarter-pole. He just stopped. He

got choked up and that's not like him."

Borel's first reaction was that Take Charge Indy might have bled.

"Calvin (Borel) thought he bled, but we scoped him and it doesn't appear

that he bled," Byrne reported.

"It's disappointing, but we'll move on. We know it wasn't a talent

issue. Something obviously went wrong."
