Takedown, Cream Only rise to the top in

Oaklawn stakes

Ackerley Brothers Farm's TAKEDOWN (Point Given) scored his second stakes victory when

taking the $99,250

Northern Spur Breeders' Cup

S.

by three-quarters of a length on Saturday. The one-mile event was one of two

stakes for three-year-olds on the closing-day, Arkansas Derby (G2) undercard at

Oaklawn Park.

Trained by Steve Asmussen and ridden by Robby Albarado, the 5-1 third choice

rated near the back of the pack while St. Zarb (Zarbyev) set fractions of :23, :47 3/5

and 1:12 3/5. The pacesetter succumbed to Speedway (Forest Wildcat) in the stretch,

but Takedown was finishing fastest of all on the far outside and cruised

into the lead, with Harrow Land (Graeme Hall) belatedly claiming second, a neck

better than Speedway. The winner stopped the timer in 1:38 4/5 over the fast

track and returned $13, $5.20 and $4 while spearheading the $31.70 exacta ($1),

$201.90 trifecta ($1) and $647.30 (6-1-5-8) superfecta ($1).

Takedown broke his maiden at Churchill Downs last November, but the chestnut colt made his

last three starts at Sunland Park, annexing the Borderland Derby

two starts back. He was exiting a fifth in the WinStar Derby. With this score,

Takedown's line now reads 7-4-0-0 with earnings of $174,480.

Bred in Kentucky by Glory Days Breeding, Takedown is out of Grade 3 winner Little Sister

(Valid Appeal), a full sister to multiple stakes winner Littleexpectations and multiple Grade 3 winner Valid Expectations,

both now sires. Takedown counts himself as half-brother to an unnamed

juvenile colt by

Distorted Humor and an unnamed yearling colt by Pulpit.

In the $95,000

Instant Racing Breeders' Cup

S., the Asmussen-trained CREAM ONLY (Exchange Rate)

earned her first stakes victory with a 1 1/2-length decision, closely tracking the pace before

seizing command into the stretch.

Dismissed as a 30-1 longshot, the Padua Stables homebred pressed Champagne Sue (Elusive Quality) through fractions of :23 1/5, :47 3/5 and 1:26

1/5, and she quickly opened up on her rivals in upper stretch under Tim Doocy.

Nice Inheritance (Pure Prize) closed to be a non-threatening second, with

Chatham (Maria's Mon) in third.

Finishing the

one-mile contest in 1:38 4/5, Cream Only now sports a 10-2-3-3 line and $109,865

in earnings. The three-year-old filly gave back

$63.20, $20 and $7.60 and keyed the $163.30 exacta ($1), $1,060.70 trifecta ($1)

and $3,818.20 (9-5-10-6) superfecta ($1). The Florida-bred is out of Raspberry Eggcream (Time

for a Change) and is a half-sister to multiple stakes winner

Electrify (Delaware Township) and an unnamed juvenile colt by Snow Ridge. She

counts herself as a

full sister to an unnamed yearling filly.
