Talkin About Love takes Monmouth Oaks

Last updated: 8/12/07 7:07 PM

TALKIN ABOUT LOVE (Not for Love) was full of run heading into the stretch of

Sunday's $200,000

Monmouth Breeders' Cup Oaks (G3) under Stewart Elliott and pulled off to

record an easy 1 3/4-length victory as the near 3-1 third choice.

Bred, owned and trained by Kevin Sleeter, Talkin About Love was content to

save ground on the rail while running next to last during the early going. All

the while, 3-2 favorite Exchanging Fire (Exchange Rate) was leading the field

through splits of :23 4/5, :47 2/5 and 1:11 4/5, before backing up entering the

stretch. By that time, Talkin About Love had pulled her way into contention

along the inside and gunned away from her rivals, eventually finishing 1 1/16

miles on the fast dirt in 1:43 3/5.

"She didn't mind getting behind horses at all," Elliott said. "When I was

ready to go, she just took off. I only rode her in her last race, and she really

impressed me. She came out today and ran great. She's a very talented filly and

showed it."

Talkin About Love was worth $7.80, $4.60 and $2.60 to her backers while

keying the $106.40 exacta and $282 trifecta (6-2-4). Scooter Girl (Impeachment),

the 30-1 longest shot on the board, rallied from last along the rail on the turn and was easily best of the rest while never reaching the winner. The dark bay

miss paid $22.20 and $4.60, while 3-2 second choice Lady Marlboro (Smoke Glacken) finished another 4 3/4 lengths back in third to return $2.60.

Exchanging Fire was next under the wire and followed by Adhrhythm (Adhocracy)

and Suzy Smart (Smart Strike).

Talkin About Love earned her first stakes victory here and moved her 2007

mark to a perfect five-for-five. She ended her juvenile season with a third in

the New Jersey Futurity for fillies, and now owns a 10-6-0-2 record with $283,208 in

accumulated earnings.

The New Jersey-bred chestnut is the first registered foal out of She's Jane

(Northern Idol), who captured the 1999 edition of the New Jersey Futurity for

fillies and

placed second in the 2001 Girl Powder H. The 10-year-old mare also has an unraced juvenile colt named Just a Lion (Lion Hearted), an unnamed yearling colt

by the same sire and an unnamed 2007 colt by Funny Frolic.
