Tattersalls catalogs 2,728 for December Sale

Last updated: 11/5/08 1:24 PM

A total of 2,728 lots have been cataloged for the forthcoming Tattersalls

December Sale, which takes place from November 24 through December 4. The

catalogs are out now and are available from Tattersalls and Tattersalls

representatives, and comprise one day of 237 yearlings, 1,261 foals over five

days and 1,230 lots of breeding stock over the final four days.

Heading the sale are a trio of Group 1-winning three-year-old fillies --

NATAGORA (Divine Light), LADY MARIAN (Nayef) and SAOIRSE ABU (Mr. Greeley) --

and the Group 1-winning South African champion mare NATIONAL COLOUR (National

Assembly).

Consigned from the stables of French trainer Pascal Bary, Natagora won the

Cheveley Park S. (Eng-G1) at Newmarket as a two-year-old before returning to

headquarters as a three-year-old to take the English One Thousand Guineas

(Eng-G1) in determined style. The gray lass, named the 2007 European champion

two-year-old filly, also won the Prix Robert Papin (Fr-G2) and placed in five

Group 1 events, including the Prix du Jockey Club (French Derby) (Fr-G1) against

the boys.

Lady Marian looks set to be one of the most highly sought after lots

following her emphatic last start victory in the Prix de l'Opera (Fr-G1) at

Longchamp. The German-bred ran out a comfortable winner in what looked a strong

renewal of the race, defeating the three-time Group 1 winner Lush Lashes

(Galileo [Ire]), and looks open to further improvement. Lady Marian is part of a

strong draft from German consignor Ronald Rauscher that also includes SACARINA

(Old Vic), dam of German Derby (Ger-G1) winners Samum and Schiaparelli (Monsun)

as well as German Oaks (Ger-G1) heroine Salve Regina. Sacarina is in foal to

multiple highweight Manduro, and her unraced daughter SANWA (Monsun) is also

cataloged, offered in foal to Dansili and consigned by Castletown Stud.

Saoirse Abu also looks one of the highlights of the catalog, having been

third to Natagora in the English One Thousand Guineas and a winner of the

Moyglare Stud S. (Ire-G1) and Phoenix S. (Ire-G1). The chestnut miss hails from

the family of classic winner Balanchine and will be consigned from Jim Bolger's

Glebe House Stables.

The 2006 South African Horse of the Year National Colour completes the

quartet of Group 1 winning fillies/mares on offer. The gray mare won three Group

1 races in her native South Africa when under the care of trainer Sean Tarry and

showed her class when finishing a close second in the Nunthorpe S. (Eng-G1) at

Newmarket in August.

The two-year-olds LAHALEEB (Redback), winner of the Rockfel S. (Eng-G2) at

Newmarket in her last start, and LANGS LASH (Noveree), victress of the Queen

Mary S. (Eng-G2), both look attractive racing propositions. Other fillies on

offer include St Leger (Eng-G1) runner-up UNSUNG HEROINE (High Chaparral [Ire])

and English One Thousand Guineas runner-up ARCH SWING (Arch) and Turkish

superstar RIBELLA (Revoque), winner of more than £1 million in prizemoney.

Amongst the mares offered are MISE (Indian Ridge), dam of Falmouth S.

(Eng-G1) winner Nahoodh (Clodovil); LOGICA (Priolo), dam of globetrotting star

Doctor Dino (Fr) (Muhtathir [GB]); and OUR QUEEN OF KINGS (GB) (Arazi), dam of

Sun Chariot S. (Eng-G1) winner Spinning Queen (Spinning World), who realized 3

million guineas in the 2006 December Sale.

There are also the typically high quality drafts from the Niarchos family's

Haras de Fresnay-le-Buffard as well as Lord and Lady Lloyd-Webber's Kiltinan

Stud. Also present are strong consignments from leading nurseries Cheveley Park

Stud, Darley, Highclere Stud, Juddmonte Farms and Shadwell Stud and leading

consignors The Castlebridge Consignment, Voute Sales and Jamie Railton.

"The 2007 Tattersalls December Sale broke all records with an outstanding

catalog headlined by the dispersal of the late Robert Sangster's Swettenham

Stud, and whilst that will be a hard act to follow we are delighted to offer

three catalogs stacked with quality, including three top-class Group 1-winning

three-year-old fillies," Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony said. "The

Tattersalls December Sale typically attracts buyers from all corners of the

globe looking to upgrade the quality of their broodmare bands and we look

forward to welcoming them to what is the world's most international sale. The

Tattersalls December Foal Sale also looks strong on quality with the top 20

active British- and Irish-based sires, as well as top French, German and North

American sires all represented."
