TBA awards announced

The 2005 Thoroughbred Breeders' Association (TBA) Awards for British breeders

were announced Thursday. The Queen's Silver Cup, which goes to the leading

breeder by earnings for flat races in Britain and Ireland, went to Sheikh Hamdan

al Maktoum's Shadwell Stud, which snapped a three-year domination of the

category by Juddmonte Farms.

Cheveley Park Stud garnered the TBA Silver Rose Bowl as the TBA flat breeder

of the year, and Deerfield Farm received the TBA Silver Salver Special for

winning the Special Merit Award for flat racing. Louise Parry's Pantycoed Stud

was recognized with the Langham Cup as the top Small Breeder, flat racing.

Equine winners included Darley Farm's HALLING (BBA Silver Cigar Box as the

leading British-based stallion, flat earnings), Gainsborough Stud's ROYAL

APPLAUSE (GB) (Barleythorpe Stud Cup as the leading British-based stallion,

individual flat winners), Overbury Stud's BERTOLINI (Tattersalls' Silver Salver

as the leading British-based first season sire), Red House Stud's STAR (H J Joel

Silver Salver as the Broodmare of the Year, flat racing) and Shade Oak Stud's

ALFORA (Whitbread Silver Salver as the leading active British-based Northern

Hemisphere stallion).
