Ten pre-entered for Arlington Million;

Cosmonaut now likely

Kevin Shea hopes for another victory celebration aboard Archipenko

(Hong Kong Jockey Club)

At the conclusion of Friday's pre-entry stage, a total of 10 horses had been

declared for the August 9 Arlington Million (G1). As expected, three will ship

in from Europe for the grassy 1 1/4-mile event: multiple Group 1 hero MOUNT

NELSON (GB) (Rock of Gibraltar [Ire]), who is exiting a score in the Eclipse S.

(Eng-G1) for Aidan O'Brien; the Mike de Kock-trained ARCHIPENKO (Kingmambo), the

winner of the Queen Elizabeth II Cup (HK-G1) in April and most recently

successful in the Summer Mile (Eng-G2) at Ascot; and multiple French Group 3

victor SPIRIT ONE (Fr) (Anabaa Blue) from the yard of Philippe Demercastel.

O'Brien's go-to rider, Johnny Murtagh, has the assignment aboard Mount

Nelson, while Archipenko will once again have the services of regular pilot

Kevin Shea. Ioritz Mendizabal, a top jockey in France, picks up the mount on

Spirit One.

Spearheading the American-based team will be three-time Grade 1 star EINSTEIN

(Brz) (Spend a Buck), a Helen Pitts trainee who was second in the Firecracker H.

(G2) in his latest venture. Robby Albarado will be back in the saddle. Horseman

Bobby Frankel has pre-entered Italian Group 1 winner SUDAN (Ire) (Peintre

Celebre), fourth in the Man o' War S. (G1) last time out, and multiple Grade 2

scorer OUT OF CONTROL (Brz) (Vettori), who just missed by a nose in the

Manhattan H. (G1). John Velazquez is slated to ride Sudan, while Garrett Gomez

is booked for Out of Control.

The remaining pre-entries are all coming off races at Arlington Park. STREAM

CAT (Black Minnaloushe) rallied to capture the Arlington H. (G3) over COSMONAUT

(Lemon Drop Kid). Julien Leparoux will renew acquaintance with Stream Cat, whom

he guided to a dead-heat fourth in the 2007 Arlington Million. No rider was

listed for Cosmonaut, who was cross-entered to Sunday's Fourstardave H. (G2) at

Saratoga. On Sunday morning, however, Cosmonaut was scratched from the

Fourstardave, and he is now considered to be increasingly likely for the

Million.

The locally based CLOUDY'S KNIGHT (Lord Avie), who was honored as Canada's

champion turf horse of 2007, will bid to improve off his fourth to SILVERFOOT

(With Approval) in the Stars and Stripes Turf H. (G3). Cloudy's Knight will team up

with regular partner Ramsey Zimmerman in the Million, and Arlington supremo Rene Douglas gets the

return call for Silverfoot.
