Tonalist earns shot at Breeders' Cup Classic glory with

Jockey Club Gold Cup repeat

Robert S. Evan's

Tonalist (Tapit) once again proved his love for Belmont Park with a 4 3/4-length

repeat victory in the $1 million Jockey Club Gold Cup (G1) on the track's Super

Saturday II program.

The Christophe Clement-trained four-year-old ran 1 1/4 miles over the sloppy,

sealed track in 2:02.16, just off the 2:02.12 time he recorded when winning last

year's race by 1 3/4 lengths. Saturday's win in the

Jockey Club Gold Cup earned the bay colt an automatic berth in the Breeders'

Cup Classic (G1) on October 31 at Keeneland, a race he finished fifth in last

November.

While Tonalist is considered probable for the Breeders' Cup,

Nickname's (Scat Daddy) connections are still on the fence regarding sending her

to the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) following her 3 1/2-length score in

the $400,000 Frizette S. (G1). Campaigned by LNJ Foxwoods, the Steve

Asmussen pupil posted a final time of 1:37.76 in the

Frizette,

which is a "Win & You're In" for the Juvenile Fillies.

Earlier on the day,

Takeover Target (Harlan's Holiday) prevailed by 1 3/4 lengths in the $500,000

Hill Prince S. (G3) with Jose Ortiz aboard. Conditioned by Chad Brown for

Klaravich Stables Inc. and William H. Lawrence, the bay sophomore finished 1 1/8

miles over the soft inner turf of the

Hill

Prince in 1:51.42.
