Travers emerging as the leading option for American Pharoah
According to media reports and owner Ahmed Zayat's twitter feed, the August
29 Travers (G1) at Saratoga is the leading option for American Pharoah's (Pioneerof
the Nile) next start.
The sublime colt exits a thoroughly dominant victory in Sunday's Haskell
Invitational (G1) and several options remain for his next engagement, but Zayat
appeared to rule out the August 22 Pacific Classic (G1) and September 19
Pennsylvania Derby (G2) on Tuesday despite being adamant that the decision
remains in the hands of trainer Bob Baffert.
NYRA officials announced last week that the Travers purse, scheduled to be
$1.25 million, will be increased to $1.6 million if Triple Crown champion
American Pharoah competes.
