Trinniberg taking another crack at Sprint

Team Parboo, or Parbhoo, depending on who you talk with, will give champion

Trinniberg an opportunity to defend his title in the $1.5 million Breeders' Cup

Sprint at six furlongs on November 2.

The four-year-old Kentucky-bred colt barely drew a deep breath when finishing

seventh and last behind victorious Points Offthebench in the Santa Anita Sprint

Championship on October 5, 22 1/4 lengths behind the winner.

It was the first race for the dark bay son of Teuflesberg in three months,

when he finished second in the Smile Sprint Handicap at Calder July 6.

Trinniberg worked a half-mile on Santa Anita's main track Friday in a bullet

:46 3/5, fastest of 21 drills at the distance, the average time of which was :48

2/5.

"It was a very nice work, without the whip," said Bisnath Parboo, who trains

Trinniberg for his granddaughter, Sherry Parbhoo. "We had to put a lip chain on

to walk him after the work, he was so full of himself."

Sherry explained the one letter difference in the spelling of their last

names.

"When my grandfather came to this country and went through the immigration

process, his last name was misspelled," she said. "The 'H' was omitted."

Asked about the colt's disappointing performance in the Santa Anita Sprint

Championship, Parboo was still mystified.

"I don't know why," Parboo said. "(Jockey) Jose (Valdivia) said after he

broke from the gate, he was finished, but I can't understand it."

Still, Parbhoo and Parboo are not ready to throw in the towel.

"He deserves another chance in the Breeders' Cup," the trainer said.
