Ten distaffers are set for Saturday's $175,000 Turfway Breeders' Cup S. (G3)
and we'll go with the speedy BOHEMIAN LADY (Carson City), who stretched out to
nine furlongs to easily crush allowance rivals at Saratoga last time. Trained by
Todd Pletcher, the improving bay filly cuts back a half-furlong here and gets
Rafael Bejarano in the irons. The four-year-old has captured two of her last
three starts and finished only three lengths back of multiple Grade 1 winner
Society Selection (Coronado's Quest) in the Shuvee H. (G2) two races ago. Given
her strong present form, we can't go against Bohemian Lady.
MY RO (Dixieland Band) is a lightly raced five-year-old who appears to be
hitting her best stride for conditioner Dale Romans. The stalker has raced
mostly in sprints so far, but she's bred for the added distance and figures to
receive a perfect trip under Mark Guidry. My Ro owns a winning attitude (six for
nine) and encouraging BRIS Speed and Pace numbers, and she'll probably be in
position to take over if the speed falters.
QUICK TEMPER (A.P. Indy) is a threat from just off the pace. Pat Valenzuela
picks up the mount on the four-year-old, who enters off two good performances at
Arlington Park, including a runner-up finish in the Arlington Matron H. (G3)
most recently. Her BRIS Speed ratings are a little low, but the dark bay has run her
best races at the 1 1/16-mile distance and can't be left out of the discussion
for the top three given her strong present form.
MISS FORTUNATE (Deputy Minister) ran well over Aqueduct's inner track earlier
this year and has caught off tracks in her last two efforts. The Bill
Mott-trained mare needed her last race off the layoff and is a definite threat
to show more here. She brings commendable Speed and Late Pace ratings into this
event and could be a significant factor at a decent price.
TEMPUS FUGIT (Alphabet Soup) owns some early zip and ran well over the old
dirt track at Turfway. A multiple stakes winner, she proved effective from just
off the pace when capturing a black-type event at Mountaineer Park last time and
could parlay a forwardly placed trip into a top-three finish on Saturday.
JOSH'S MADELYN (Quiet American) is a Grade 2 winner, but she looks better
sprinting. WINNING SEASON (Lemon Drop Kid), a three-year-old, is difficult to
endorse off her last two efforts and drew a bad post. SHEER LUCK (A.P. Indy) is
stepping up in class and looks better on turf. TANGO FOR TIPS (Seeking the Gold)
owns some early speed but looks overmatched at this level. WHOOPI CAT (Tale of
the Cat) is unproven around two turns and undesirable here given her present
form.
