Waddell Hancock dies
Claiborne Farm matriarch Waddell Hancock, widow of the late A.B. "Bull"
Hancock Jr. and mother of four children, including Stone Farm owner Arthur
Hancock III and Claiborne President Seth Hancock, died Friday at her home in
Paris, Kentucky. She was 90.
A native of Lebanon, Tennessee, Hancock was married for 31 years to her husband,
who ran Claiborne Farm prior to his passing in 1972. Claiborne is owned by Seth
and his sisters Dell Hancock and Clay Hancock. Claiborne became the first owner
to earn a gold bowl from Keeneland for winning 20 graded stakes, and Hancock was
on hand for the ceremony in 2003.
She is also survived by eight grandchildren.
