Ward eyeing Middle Park, Cheveley Park for juveniles

Last updated: 7/22/09 3:16 PM

Fresh off crashing the party at Royal Ascot, trainer Wesley Ward could plot a

trans-Atlantic raid on Britain's premier six-furlong juvenile contests, the

£170,000 Middle Park S. (Eng-G1) and the £170,000 Cheveley Park S. (Eng-G1),

both run at Newmarket on October 2.

MISSISSIPPI HIPPIE (Dance Master) and FRANKIE CAL (Ghostzapper) could both

make the journey to the Rowley Mile for the Middle Park, while the filly CRIMSON

GLORY (Ghostzapper) could make the same trip for the Cheveley Park.

"They are very talented two-year-olds and we have put them in the Middle Park

and Cheveley Park as we want to keep options open," Ward said.

The conditioner became the first American-based trainer to land a success at

the Royal Meeting, recording a double with Jealous Again (Trippi) in the Queen

Mary S. (Eng-G2) and Strike the Tiger (Tiger Ridge) in the Windsor Castle S.

"Good sprint races on grass at that time of year are rare here in the U.S.

which is why I have made the entries," Ward explained. "It depends on how they

do during the summer. If they do as well as I think they will, then I will have

to make a decision on whether to ship them to England."

Mississippi Hippie broke his maiden at Belmont Park on July 11 in his second

career start while making his grass debut. Neither Frankie Cal nor Crimson Glory

have made it to the track yet.

"It is pricey to take them over and I will be comparing them to the

two-year-olds who did so well at Royal Ascot," Ward said. "These three are bred

better than the Royal Ascot ones. Mississippi Hippie is a very talented colt who

broke his maiden at Belmont Park recently. Frankie Cal is likely to be renamed

Wonderboy Roy before he runs for the first time in mid-August. Crimson Glory may

have her debut on Friday or we could wait until Saratoga starts.

"I have only entered them in these two Newmarket races over six furlongs and

if they came over it would be in mid September, two weeks or 10 days beforehand,

to give them time to sponge out, get the fluids back in and have one easy

breeze, with all the preparation done here."
