What a Song euthanized following training injury
Best Pal S. (G2) hero WHAT A SONG (Songandaprayer) fractured his right front
sesamoid around 7 a.m. (PDT) during a Friday workout at Del Mar and was euthanized. The
prolific two-year-old colt was the $1.9 million sale topper at the Barretts
March Sale and captured all three of his career starts, earning $179,700.
Owned by Bob and Beverly Lewis and trained by Bob Baffert, What a Song opened
his career with an easy maiden special weight victory in mid-June at Hollywood
Park and then captured the Hollywood Juvenile Championship S. (G3). He was
favored at 4-5 in the Best Pal and didn't disappoint his many supporters,
winning by 2 3/4 lengths.
From the first crop of sire Songandaprayer, What a Song was being pointed
toward the September 7 Del Mar Futurity (G2) and was one of the leading
candidates for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile (G1).
