WINNING WITH WORKOUTS

JANUARY 13

In this regular weekly feature, Handicapper's Report will present examples of

how to use workouts in your handicapping using actual results with horses

featured in our reports. To access the HR reports and to see the highlights of

Today's Topic: Over a speed-biased track, recent workouts may give an

indication of trainer intent to steal a race.

Aqueduct had been promoting speed all week. On January 9 in the 6TH race,

METALLIC MOON (Migrating Moon), who used a stalking trip to break his maiden in

his previous race, had a recent workout in which he showed unusual speed

relative to all of his other previous works. That move indicated a potential

change in his running style on a track that would surely promote the change.

Metallic Moon took advantage of the situation to go virtually wire to wire at

$13.60.

METALLIC MOON

--

BEL 12/09/04 B FT 47.1H

Showed very high speed in

fractions of 23/1, 47/1, with mild urging only and responded very well

when asked.
