Wren highlights opening session at Fasig-Tipton Midlantic
WREN (Elusive Quality), in foal on a February 20 cover to Maria's Mon, sold
for the top price of $85,000 to Denise Dommel at Sunday's opening session of the
Fasig-Tipton Midlantic December Mixed Sale in Timonium, Maryland.
Consigned by Charlton (Mr. and Mrs. Rick Abbott), agent, the six-year-old
mare is a half-sister to multiple stakes winner Buffels (Vaal Reef), the dam of
stakes winners One Eyed Joker (Polish Numbers) and Only in Philly (Polish
Numbers). Wren is also a half-sister to stakes-placed winners Sylvester Questor
(Norquestor), Speedquestor (Norquestor) and Kitwe (Allen's Prospect). Her first
foal is a yearling filly by Belong to Me.
On Sunday, the sales company reported 171 horses sold for $1,117,600, a
decline of 36.5 percent compared to the same session last year when 201 horses
sold for $1,759,400. The average price dropped 25.3 percent, from $8,753 to
$6,536, while the median price remained unchanged at $3,700.
