Yearlings set to sell at Fairyhouse

Last updated: 9/22/09 5:13 PM

Wednesday sees the yearling sale season move on to Fairyhouse after the usual

fare at Deauville, Doncaster, Baden-Baden and Milan with Tattersalls Ireland

hosting their two-day September Sale. Last year saw a change in format from

three days to two -- which was brought about by a cull in numbers -- and the

dropping of the "New Sires' Showcase" that traditionally opened the selling.

In the past 12 months, graduates to have flown the flag include the Glorious

Goodwood Group 2 winners Xtension (Xaar) -- the Vintage S. (Eng-G2) victor who

had earlier also finished runner-up in the Coventry S. (Eng-G2) to provide a

handsome return on his €15,000 purchase -- and Dick Turpin (Arakan). The latter,

who cost a mere €26,000, followed his Richmond S. (Eng-G2) success with a smooth

win in the Tattersalls Ireland Sale S. at Fairyhouse last month.

Others to have increased the auction's profile in the past 12 months are the

Del Mar Mile (G2) winner and Woodbine Mile (Can-G1) runner-up Ferneley (Ire) (Ishiguru),

the Roses S. winner Star Rover (Camacho) and Sirenia S. (Eng-G3) winner Love

Lockdown (Verglas [Ire]). They added to the honor roll which features the

top-level winners Paco Boy (Desert Style), Creachadoir (King's Best), Saoire

(GB) (Pivotal), Tout Seul (Ali-Royal) and Super Tassa (Ire) (Lahib).

"The two Glorious Goodwood Group 2-winning two-year-olds, Xtension and Dick

Turpin, demonstrate the combination of quality and value for money that buyers

have come to associate with the Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale, and

this year's catalog looks to be stronger than ever," Tattersalls Ireland's

Managing Director George Mernagh commented. "In addition, we have revitalized

the €150,000 Tattersalls Ireland Super Auction Stakes, making it even more

attractive to owners than ever and, combined with the £10,000 Racing Post

Yearling Bonus, there have never been more incentives for buyers to come to the

September Yearling Sale."

Among the 551 lots on offer, there are first offerings from Araafa (Ire),

Hurricane Run (Ire), Iffraaj, Ivan Denisovich (Ire), Librettist, Shirocco (Ger)

and Sleeping Indian (GB).
